Patton & Eisenhower closeup

These pieces are from our Bentley Series.  The pieces are reclaimed from the historic Hotel Bentley in Alexandria, LA.  During WWII  Hotel Bentley experienced visits during the 1941-1942 Louisiana maneuvers by several military notables including Major General George Patton, and then not-so-well-known Colonel Dwight David Eisenhower. For more information on the Bentley go to www.historicbentley.com

The following stories accompany these pieces:

“Just” an end table at the Bentley?  Hardly!  My friend Eisenhower and I sat right in the lobby where we could see all the comings and goings.  That’s how we got our names, in fact.  During World War II Major General George Patton walked within 6 feet of us!   Colonel Eisenhower came through, too.  Imagine our excitement when he was elected President of the United States!  Second Lieutenant Henry Kissinger stopped in as well.  When I learned that my new uniform would have stripes I was impressed.  The seal of the City of Alexandria is pretty special, too.  It reminds me of the great men I met during my stint at the Bentley.  Life is grand!
